Lead Pastor Job Description for MVBC The pastor’s main responsibilities are to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs, provide biblical leadership for the church, and serve as the leader among peers as part of the Body of Elders. Duties – Responsibilities: Body of Elders 1. Provide leadership for the Body of Elders. 2. Work with the Body of Elders to facilitate and delegate the following: a. Following and adjusting the vision for the church b. Planning for ministry and church growth c. Overseeing all ministries and developing a team-based ministry approach d. Establishing a strong discipleship ministry to motivate, equip, and nurture the body of the church e. Coordinating with the Body of Elders in participating in visiting the sick, hospitalized, and homebound f. Evangelistic training and outreach in the community g. Managing church discipline and conflict through Biblical principles described in Matthew 18 h. Contacting and following up with visitors i. Establishing and nurturing relationships with church members in general or in unique circumstances j. Manage church business in accordance to the church constitution and by-laws Specific Duties 1. Exegetically preach the Word of God every Sunday 2. Spending time in prayer and Biblical studies and pursuing continuing personal education of Biblical studies 3. Oversee pastoral and church sta ff 4. Officiate at Biblical weddings, funerals, child dedications and baptisms 5. Lead in observance of the ordinances of the church 6. Participate with local, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in denominational and civic matters 7. Officiate the Lord’s Supper on a regular basis 8. Service as ex-officio member of all church committees and teams. 9. Serve as a moderator and the tie breaking vote on all the Body of Elders decisions, committees, and official votes but not a voting member (Family members are voting members) Special Requirements 1. Called and armed to the pastoral ministry 2. Ordained as a minister of the Gospel 3. Above reproach (1 Timothy 3:1-7) 4. Ability and eagerness to defend the Faith, share Christ, and disciple others 5. Strong interpersonal skills 6. Self motivated 7. Demonstrated commitment to the life and fellowship of the local church  8. Wise involvement with and use of social media and other online platforms
